about

This EP "Back to Ohio" is a brother/sister project by Daniel Dye and Sarah Kelly. We recorded each song live about 3 times in our friend Andrew Weber's basement, then chose the best version.

"Gonna Need A Witness" is a love song, and was originally part of Dye's "Home Sessions Volume 1" project from 2015. "Moving On" was inspired by some time spent in prison. The song "Back to Ohio" goes back to childhood memories of Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night. "I'm Not Crazy" is a song you write when you cannot sleep. And "There's A Stranger" is about something in your life you wish you never let in; its verses were written in Berlin, and the chorus in Ohio, years later.

Track Name: Gonna Need A Witness
I'm gonna need a witness, there are so many things to share
And memories are more vivid when there's someone around
Someone whose almost always there

And I'm gonna need a friendship, someone who'll listen in
Tell me your stories and I'll tell you mine
Time after time after time after time

And I'm gonna need forgiveness for all the mistakes I make
For trouble and heartache, and struggle and pain
Forgive me, forgive me, for all that I take

And I'm gonna need some truth in a world that just don't seem right
Show me what's good and show me what's not
And when it's all stripped away then what have we got

So I'm gonna need you honey, when the nights get cold and long
If we take to the higway or take to the sea
I'll be there for you and you'll be there for me
Track Name: Moving On
I heard that you killed a man, and then it was two
To this day I still wonder what got into you, I do
And I worry that I'm the same, that the anger runs deep
And this keeps me from fighting it keeps me from sleep, it does

And I suppose I can understand
That you wanted to be a better man
But along the way so many things went wrong
And there's a time for looking back
But now's the time to face the fact
To face the fact that I am moving on

Besides a promise isn't a promise when you don't follow through
You say a lie it's not a lie when it's meant to be true, I guess
But either way I'm still going to Amsterdam
The canals there are pretty they say
And no I don't know language but I'll be OK, I will

And I suppose I can understand
That you wanted to be a better man
But along the way so many things went wrong
And there's a time for looking back
But now's the time to face the fact
To face the fact that I am moving on
Track Name: Back To Ohio
Raise your voice lift your eyes
Spin your words speak your lies
Sit in rows and face the cross
And tell yourselves that you aren't lost

I finally turned to Jesus and He turned back to me
And I was blind but now I see
If I don't make it back to Ohio tell everyone
That I'm not sorry that I'm gone

Find a woman, someone sweet
And she'll be falling at your feet
But when she leaves you, it's not your loss
Go ahead and claim that cross

I finally turned to Jesus and He turned back to me
And I was blind but now I see
If I don't make it back to Ohio tell everyone
That I'm not sorry that I'm gone

And don't let your heart be troubled
Don't worry about tomorrow
Don't worry about tomorrow
Today has troubles of its own

Raise your arms, close your eyes
Spin my words, believe your lies
Tell yourselves that I am lost
Go ahead and claim that cross

I finally turned to Jesus and He turned back to me
And I was blind but now I see
If I don't make it back to Ohio tell everyone
That I'm not sorry that I'm gone

I finally turned to Jesus and He turned back to me
And I was blind but now I see
If I don't make it back to Ohio tell everyone
That I'm not sorry that I'm gone
Track Name: I'm Not Crazy
One by one, two by two
We shuffle up and down the avenue
Left ain't right and right is wrong
And none of this matters anymore
But I'm not hopeless and I'm not sad
Don't say I'm angry 'cause I'm not mad
I'm just nothing and nothing can't be that

And people stop and listen to me
I'm not crazy
But then again maybe I am

Oh the back roads and the alleys
The night skies and the valleys
Driving around is all I ever seem to do
And I'm just thinking and it's not easy
Because there's nothing
And then there's something
I see everything, I see all things
Between me and you

And people stop and listen to me
I'm not crazy
But then again maybe I am

Oh angels, demons
Gnashing, screaming
Moths and dust, bones and rust
And that's what's left of all of us

And people stop and listen to me
I'm not crazy I'm not crazy
And people stop and listen to me
I'm not crazy I'm not crazy
I'm not crazy I'm not crazy
Track Name: There's A Stranger
There's a stranger knocking at my door
A stranger knocking at my door
And I swear I never saw that face before
A stranger knocking at my door

And you told me don't let a stranger in
Oh you told me don't let a stranger in
But I thought he might be a friend
Don't let a stranger in

We've gotta cross that river and love again
Lord knows, lord knows when
When the clouds roll back
We'll be on the other side

All I ever wanted was to get things right
All I ever wanted was to get things right
To settle down and finally sleep at night
Oh to get things right

And for a time there were colors in the sky
For a time there were colors in the sky
And I swear I'd never felt so high
Colors in the sky

We've gotta cross that river and love again
Lord knows, lord knows when
When the clouds roll back
We'll be on the other side

Then the colors died and it all went black
Oh the colors died and it all went black
And If I could, I could I'd take it back
Oh it all went black

We've gotta cross that river and love again
Lord knows, lord knows when
When the clouds roll back
We'll be on the other side
