All the "Home Sessions (Raw Singles)" series of recordings follow the parameters of making live music. Each song is performed and recorded live, in one take. Sometimes other musicians join in on the song, sometimes Daniel plays and sings alone. Either way, there is only a single track, no doubling up, no layering.
As a kid, my favorite tree was always the Ash tree. This was mainly because the farm I grew up on had more Ash trees than any other type, and in our yard we had three gigantic and beautiful Ash trees. Over the years they were the home to tire and wooden swings, tree houses, and served as a roof for family picnics. The emerald ash borer came and destroyed these trees, along with hundreds of others on our farm, and millions more across North America. This song is just a little lament about this.
lyrics
There's a house in a tree, that's where you would find me
Looking up dreaming dreams, looking down scheming schemes
And the sun doesn't shine now in the same way
And the moon doesn't rise now in the same way
There's a swing facing West, we'd watch the days go to rest
Talk our dreams. make our plans. watch the sky, understand
And the sun doesn't shine now in the same way
And the moon doesn't rise now in the same way
They came from China or Japan, either way, a foreign land
Their emerald was beautiful, you gave them life and they took your soul
And the sun doesn't shine now in the same way
And the moon doesn't rise now in the same way
There's a fire and you are there, then you're gone into the air
One last whisper, one last breath, one last roar upon your death
And the sun doesn't shine now in the same way
And the moon doesn't rise now in the same way
And the sun doesn't shine now in the same way
And the moon doesn't rise now in the same way
In the same way
In the same way
