Darling we've been picking up the pieces for years now And even so we've only scratched the surface of our tears now But if the future is anything like the past we'll be facing fears now But you can't stop this love You can’t stop this love, oh stop this love! And I still don’t have a dime or a nickel to my name now But taking this in stride without you wouldn’t be the same somehow And I’d be lying if a I claimed that we never had to stoke the flames now But you can’t stop this love! You can’t stop this love, oh stop this love! And those storm clouds have come in heavy about every day now But my mama told me ‘son you know it might be this way now And splitting and splintering, that don’t ever pay now’ And you can’t stop this love! You can’t stop this love, oh stop this love!

Maybe this should come as no surprise but the world it slaps you with its lies And you can’t go back to blinded eyes ‘cause there’s a price to pay Now you can’t sleep when your head pounds and you can’t get up when you’re falling down And you cannot walk on shaky ground but you must be on your way And all the people cry Lord have mercy, lord have mercy, lord have mercy We’ve got to find some sweet release Heaven help us, heaven help us, heaven help us We’re falling down upon our knees Now you go to find solace in the house of God, but all you find is your soul rots You don’t know what you are or what you’re not, but they are not like you Yet there must be wrong and must be right, but there’s evil in the sweetest light And goodness in the blackest night and you don’t know what to do And all the people cry Lord have mercy, lord have mercy, lord have mercy We’ve got to find some sweet release Heaven help us, heaven help us, heaven help us We’re falling down upon our knees So is it better or is it worse that you aren’t blessed and you aren’t cursed And others yes they’ve been here first they’ve walked this weary land And some they die before they age and others clinch their fists in rage And some are freed from this cage and you cannot understand And all the people cry Lord have mercy, lord have mercy, lord have mercy We’ve got to find some sweet release Heaven help us, heaven help us, heaven help us We’re falling down upon our knees

Blinded again by the power of men, ignoring all evil and laughing off sin Blinded again by the pull of this world Jesus come save my soul Save my soul, save my soul, Jesus come save my soul Blinded again by the pull of this world Jesus come save my soul Blinded again by the pulse of my skin, shining outside but dark within Blinded again by the will of my flesh, Jesus come save my soul Save my soul, save my soul, Jesus come save my soul Blinded again by the will of my flesh Jesus come save my soul Blinded again by that heavenly grin, out to destroy and waiting to win Blinded again by that angel of light, Jesus come save my soul Save my soul, save my soul, Jesus come save my soul Blinded again by that angel of light Jesus come save my soul

Eliza's Song 04:21
Eliza the heaviness has set in, you and I will be together to the end When I see those questions in your eyes, I want to hold you away from dark surprise And when those black days get me down, you don’t seem to mind when I’m around And when I see that sunshine on your face, for the moment you and I have found our place And the world outside is moving fast, but for us it’s moving slow And the time around is flying past but right now we wouldn’t know They say your defined by the company you keep, maybe that’s why I’m at peace when I watch you sleep Tomorrow’s shadows try and creep into the night, but for now all is still and all is right And the world outside is moving fast, but for us it’s moving slow And the time around is flying past but right now we wouldn’t know Someday you’ll be the one who’s strong, and I’ll remark how years have come and gone And when those dark days get me down, I’ll be waiting for the time you come around And the world outside is moving fast, but for us it’s moving slow And the time around is flying past but right now we wouldn’t know

Luann 04:08
Another Sunday morning and the sky’s still gray And everywhere I turn I see you're still away That church bell rings, calling us home And I'm going, but going nowhere when I’m going alone Luann can't you understand I would have loved you 'til the Winter came on Luann can't you understand I would have loved you ‘til they were singing our song The preacher shouts and his cries roll out But I've forgotten what he talks about ‘cause this pew's empty except for me Sitting where we used to be Luann can't you understand I would have loved you 'til the Winter came on Luann can't you understand I would have loved you ‘til they were singing our song You told me once you didn’t know what you had And I’m not to blame if things go bad They’ll come and go like they did before And when they're done they'll show you to the door Luann can't you understand I would have loved you 'til the Winter came on Luann can't you understand I would have loved you ‘til they were singing our song

Hard Cider 04:02
Darling they may say we live in squalor they may think we're doin' bad But if we had a thousand dollars it wouldn't change the love you know we have dear And there've been times that I've had money and you've had days of having fun But when we didn't have each other we didn't care for either one dear And when the sun beats down we drink our cider we drink it hard, we drink it cold And when the storms move in we get real close there's someone there to love and hold dear A man once said"love is where it's at" and it's the only thing worth being heard Well love is all we've got love it is the final word dear So when you lay me in my grave just know I died a happy man There was someone with me to the end someone who could understand dear

Harrison sang his guitar weeps and Denver said it was an old, old friend And Marley brought us Jamaican sun, and we hear their voices again and again Do they know they make us cry, do they know they make us high? Do know they bring us the sun? Now they are gone, now they are gone A fat man and his ukulele stood out like a shining light Always helping an island of people make it through those lonely nights Does he know he makes us cry, does he know he makes us high? Does he know he brings us the sun, now he is gone, now he is gone Now I know deep inside it doesn’t matter whether anyone knows my name But knowing this doesn’t keep me from dreaming and I can say without shame That I’d love to make them cry, I'd love to make you high I'd love to bring you the sun, before I'm gone

Those Devils 02:52
Those devils are comin’ with the wind Those devils are comin' with the wind They’ve come to plunder, come to sin Those devils are comin' with the wind You women go underground You women go underground And pull that trigger if you are found You women go underground I may be going down but I’m taking more I may be going down but I’m taking more Just pray you're not the first to come through my door I may be going down but I’m taking more So you devils come in after me You devils come in after me Where you’ll meet your destiny You devils come in after me When that dirge rolls across the land When that dirge rolls across the land At least they’ll sing that I left a man When that dirge rolls across the land

The garden’s full of weeds and the porch is full of leaves And the grass is now a field Oh the coffee it grows cold and lights are never on And music is an echo from the past Oh I guess I have a home But if you come you’ll be alone You're gonna find it's empty without her And in an upstairs’ room the TV’s never off It’s voice pierces the gloom In the glow of its light there’s a shadow of a man A man that’s now a memory Oh I guess I have a home But if you come you’ll be alone You're gonna find it's empty without her He’s a memory of the past of a time so long ago Of a time that never really was And if you wonder why she left then you will never know Because some things are better left unsaid Oh I guess I have a home But if you come you’ll be alone You're gonna find it's empty without her

about

Some of these songs were written in Ohio, and some in Europe. Some were written in bad times -- through sickness, joblessness, and sleepless nights, and others were written in the good times -- health, new life, and friendships. All of these songs though, in one way or another, are somehow about love.
