Somebody told me a long time ago Just cause it’s said, doesn’t mean that you know And just cause you feel it, it don’t make it so And somewhere the sun still shines It’s a hard future and a hard past It’s hard to build up something that lasts When the night comes down it comes down fast But somewhere the sun still shines Once or twice I pushed it away The good with the bad and it wasn’t ok Cause a little bit of both are here to stay And somewhere the sun still shines It’s a hard future and a hard past It’s hard to build up something that lasts When the night comes down it comes down fast But somewhere the sun still shines There’s a little bit of warmth in the coldest night A calm that settles in at the end of a fight There’s a sliver of truth that says it’s alright And somewhere the sun still shines It’s a hard future and a hard past It’s hard to build up something that lasts When the night comes down it comes down fast But somewhere the sun still shines I love when I’m happy because I’m so sad And the good’s even better when things go bad It’s okay what I have and never had And somewhere the sun still shines It’s a hard future and a hard past It’s hard to build up something that lasts When the night comes down it comes down fast But somewhere the sun still shines It’s a hard future and a hard past It’s hard to build up something that lasts When the night comes down it comes down fast But somewhere the sun still shines

Children, children this I pray That I will not be led astray The things I do’ll push you away Children this I pray Brothers, sisters I’ve been wrong Selling out to get along Mostly weak and rarely strong Oh yes I've been wrong God in heaven let me be as good as you’ve been to me You give me hope you help me see Oh God let me be Children, children this I pray That I will not be led astray The things I do’ll push you away Children this I pray

I see red and blue in a sea of black They’ve got me down there’s no going back To a life of running trying to be free With shadows always chasing me Don’t worry mama your memory’s close No more rolling over in your grave Don’t worry mama the words you spoke Are settling in one less soul to save I see justice rise in a sea of hate The man in robes says it’s not too late To tell them what they need to hear Before you go and disappear Don’t worry mama your memory’s close No more rolling over in your grave Don’t worry mama the words you spoke Are settling in one less soul to save Everything you did for me Now that I’m here I finally see And your words they spin around Even more as the world slows down I see an island of concrete in a sea of gold It’s where I’m dying or so I’m told When my last breath is drawn away from me Will you raise your arms in victory Don’t worry mama your memory’s close No more rolling over in your grave Don’t worry mama the words you spoke Are settling in one less soul to save

I’ve got cobwebs in my window and cobwebs in my head And I’m trying to rise above it all but I’m sinking down instead And your gospel ain't my gospel ‘cause I still love you so And darling don’t you leave me Darling don’t you go There’s a lightness to your footsteps And a laughter in your eyes You say that things are better And that you no longer cry And that my gospel ain't your gospel That I still love you so And darling don’t you leave me Darling don’t you go Last night I heard you breathing and I reached out for your hand But I was only dreaming that I was still your man And your gospel aint my gospel cause I still love you so And darling don’t you leave me Darling don’t you go I heard what what won’t kill you Will only make you strong But the man who sat and penned these words Well he is just plain wrong And his gospel ain't my gospel ‘cause I still love you so And darling don’t you leave me Darling don’t you go

Precious Jesus I'm at the end And it's not good I'm falling again It's dark, dark, dark Are you above me? It's dark, dark, dark Are you below? It's dark, dark, dark Are you behind me? It's dark. Please let me know Precious Jesus I'm down in my head Your house full of children Makes me feel dead It's dark, dark, dark Are you above me? It's dark, dark, dark Are you below? It's dark, dark, dark Are you ahead? It's dark. Please make it so Precious Jesus you give me song You give everything But I make it wrong It's dark, dark, dark Are you above me? It's dark, dark, dark Are you below? It's dark, dark, dark Are you around me? It's dark, dark, dark. Don't let me go

There’s a shadow that’s come our way We don’t know when, or if it’s here to stay There’s a light we thought would last But it’s hard to breathe and it’s fading fast To be loving to be true, you to me Me to you We’re looking forward, looking back But look at what we have Do you remember when We first met, to be there again There’s no reason that we can’t be Everything that we could see To be loving to be true, you to me Me to you We’re looking forward, looking back But look at what we have Now every single word I say Doesn’t mean a thing if you go away Somewhere else or just in your mind Another home is hard to find To be loving to be true, you to me Me to you We’re looking forward, looking back But look at what we have
7.
There’s something in the air this morning Deeper shadows from the sun A pounding heart and shorter breath And the day has just begun There’s something in the air this morning I hear shouting in the street Another mind out there is cracking A place I hope we never meet Oh my darling stay with me one more moment you are all I have Oh my darling when you leave let me know that it’s not so bad There’s something in the air this morning Now I’m longing for the night And the cover of the darkness Compared to this it felt alright Oh my darling stay with me one more moment you are all I have Oh my darling when you leave let me know that it’s not so bad There’s something in the air this morning There’s no reason to have fear But when it comes there’s just no stopping For now I know that you are near Oh my darling stay with me one more moment you are all I have Oh my darling when you leave let me know that it’s not so bad Oh my darling stay with me one more moment you are all I have Oh my darling when you leave let me know that it’s not so bad

Now some of us we've met But others don't know us yet We ain't gonna leave here hungry We ain't gonna leave here cold You've come to Madden Road It's time to lighten up that load We ain't gonna leave here hungry We ain't gonna leave here cold Outside there's politics and lies But here we're gonna harmonize We ain't gonna leave here hungry We ain't gonna leave here cold Because the story in a song It lives on and on We ain't gonna leave here hungry We ain't gonna leave here cold So find a stranger, find a friend Find yourself, and let's begin We ain't gonna leave here hungry We ain't gonna leave here cold I swear by heaven and the earth By my death by my birth We ain't gonna leave here hungry We ain't gonna leave here cold

DId you really think that I was sober That very first time we met I only let started talking Because there was something to forget You need answers, they’re in my memories The answers are in the sky You’ll find them are all around us You’ll get your answers when you die Pray for my deliverance ease my troubled soul Jesus, holy spirit, God the father make me whole Don’t ask me where I’m going I’ll tell you where I’ve been Don’t ask me what I’m doing Don’t act like your my friend You want answers, they’re in my memories The answers are in the sky You’ll find them are all around us You’ll get your answers when you die Pray for my deliverance heal my troubled soul Jesus, holy spirit, God the father make me whole Now go and walk towards virtue Pursue what looks like good to you In a way I guess I’m sorry For all the things you think you’ve gotta do You want answers, they’re in my memories The memories are in the sky The sky is all around us You’ll get your answers when you die Pray for my deliverance stir my troubled soul Jesus, holy spirit, God the father make me whole DId you really think that I was sober That very first time we met I only let started talking Because there was something to forget

Maggie what have you done to me You should’ve up and left this town Instead you always come around Does it ease your conscience to sit and hold my hand Maggie why do you torment me You told the law you found a broken door And me there lying on the floor But the last thing I ever saw was a hammer in your hand Maggie why can’t you let me be I scream out loud but no one hears Every time I feel you coming near And then you touch my forehead you’ve got blood on your hands Maggie someday I’m gonna be free Oh it’s darker than the darkest night But someday I’m gonna see the light and finish what you started with a hammer in my hands

Oh darling there’s a fog every morning And a fog every evening It's never better, never worse It’s no problem unless I’m doing something Or I’m doing nothing Oh the wonders of a curse Let’s have a good, a good time Just like the old days, just like the old ways Oh the moments we would have Let’s have a good, a good time Just like a fresh start, just like a young heart When we thought that things were bad Oh darling my love never changes It’s just rearranges into something we don’t know To understand it oh the answer’s in the sky In the sweet by and by In the places we can’t go Let’s have a good, a good time Just like the old days, just like the old ways Oh the moments we would have Let’s have a good, a good time Just like a fresh start, just like a young heart When we thought that things were bad Oh darling there’s a fog every morning And a fog every evening It's never better, never worse

I told you there was poison in the water below You said just 'cause I say it "doesn't make it so" And sometimes I can "get things in my head" maybe I should listen to you instead Don't tell me that you care "cause I can tell that you're not there The science proves me wrong you say But your science ain't here today I told you there was ringing in my ears You say this is"funny and I'm full of fear And my neighbors they "aren't doing, doing so bad" But my neighbors they've got money they ain't never had Don't tell me that you care "cause I can tell that you're not there The science proves me wrong you say But your science ain't here today So come to my house and stay for a while Bring your liars (lawyers) and big fake smile Drink your water sleep in my bed We'll see who's crazy in the head Don't tell me that you care "cause I can tell that you're not there The science proves me wrong you say But your science ain't here today Don't tell me that you care "cause I can tell that you're not there The science proves me you right you say But your science ain't here today

about

Series Notes:

"Homes Sessions Volume 4" is a song-of-the-month project as a follow up to Volumes 1-3 in which one new song is released each month.

For Volume 1, each song was a live recording into my computer mic (with no layering or editing), and involved anyone I happened to be around that year. This project involved Sister Sarah (February), the MRB (October), and even a Turkish band (May) I played with during some time spent in eastern Turkey during that year.

For Volume 2, I had a new mic which helped to improve the quality, and tried out some layering as well. Things got a little crazy with some songs, (September) but it sure was fun.

Volume 3 included more collaboration, with friends both home and far away, and even at a live show with the audience.

Volume 4 is a living, breathing work of art at this point I guess...

Hard Future//January
Children This I Pray//February
Don't Worry Mama//March
Your Gospel//April
Precious Jesus//May
