about

There is some talk of starting a barn dancing gathering in Clark County, so this song came as a result of this endeavor. Plus I also realized about that time that a lot of my favorite country tunes are two-steppin' songs, and indeed, Dumas Walker is right up there at the top.

On top of this, Van Gogh is a favorite artist of mine. I took my elementary-aged girls to his museum in Amsterdam, but I had forgotten to warn them that he cut his own ear off and eventually shot himself in the chest. They were horrified. But it was still a better field trip than the Farm Science Review in London. On a side note, the best field trip in Ohio is undoubtedly the prison where Shawshank Redemption was filmed.

Anyway, it's interesting to think that two lonely hearts could connect over Van Gogh in a barn dance somewhere in a county named Clark.

lyrics

Joe met Janice on a Saturday night
He was riding high she was hanging tight
And once again, he was up to no good
But the stars were out and she was tired of the neighborhood

No matter what they had a lot to say
If you’re right you are wrong if it’s not their way
They think they know what’s good and bad for you
So she finally had enough she gonna do what she want to

She gonna dance on Saturday, ask forgiveness on Sunday
Call in sick on Monday, go fishing on Tuesday, Put a cap on Wednesday, Thursday/Friday start it all again

Joe asked her the best two stepping song
She said with Chattahoochee you can’t go wrong
But Dumas Walker rises to the top
Then his head began to spin and his heart just about done stop

Now he’d broken one or two before
But he was worried because he wanted her more
For the first time he didn’t know what to do
We laughed at poor Joe saying what’s gotten into you

She gonna dance on Saturday, ask forgiveness on Sunday
Call in sick on Monday, go fishing on Tuesday, Put a cap on Wednesday, Thursday/Friday start it all again

While they danced the Do-Si-Do
Janice told Joe all about Van Gogh
And they both looked up into that starry night
He knew right then that things are gonna be alright

They're gonna dance on Saturday, ask forgiveness on Sunday
Call in sick on Monday, go fishing on Tuesday, Put a cap on Wednesday, Thursday/Friday start it all again
