I wrote this song in August about the time the nights started getting colder and the days were getting shorter. It's hard when the sun starts disappearing sooner, and one of my sisters always gets down this time of year, but one night she was especially sad, and this really got to me.

About the same time I found out a good friend of mine left this world. He was a great storyteller with a marvelous, self-deprecating sense of humor, but he would lament that life never quite worked out the way it was supposed to. These verses are based on conversations we had years ago during our time in southern Poland.
